Our client is a Head Contractor, known for delivering a wide variety of outstanding building and engineering projects in Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory. who are currently seeking a Health & Safety Manager to oversee their operations across Queensland, Corporate level and on various sites.
  
The purpose of this role is to ensure effective implementation and ongoing improvement of the companies Health, Safety and Environment Management System. Actively promote a high level of health and safety awareness and knowledge across the sites/corporate office via developing and running training programs. Support the company in achieving its business plan – safely and effectively. This is a Management role within the Health, Safety, Environment & Training.
  
Responsibilities:  

  • Ensure ongoing implementation and maintenance of the site & corporate Safety Management System
  • Develop and Implement the site Safety Plan
  • Drive on-going improvement in the Safety and Health Management System through auditing and review of SHMS components.
  • Assist to provide a workplace that meets Community and Corporate Safety standards
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge and awareness of the Safety function.
  • Report on safety indicators and trends.
  • Prepare and distribute Safety Reports
  • Provide leadership and support to operations personnel particularly for risk management and incident investigation processes.
  • Encourage effective teamwork
  • Work to budget
  • Lead the Health, Safety, Environment and Training Teams both at a site and corporate level.

  
Accountabilities:  

  • Lead the Health, Safety, Environment and Training Teams both at a site and corporate level.
  • Leadership role in driving the Safety effort.
  • Ongoing improvement with the mine’s Safety Management System.
  • Ongoing support to operations for risk management and incident investigation activities.
  • Ongoing internal auditing and review of SHMS along with Environment and Training components and outcomes to monitor exposure and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide resources and expertise to support the implementation of Safety initiatives.
  • Be a “mentor” and support others to develop their OH&S capability and increase professional expertise.
  • Regularly report on leading and lagging measures for safety.
  • Monitor the completion of actions associated with safety improvement opportunities

  
Requirements:  

  • Tertiary qualifications in HSE or a related field desirable.
  • Relevant professional certification.
  • 5+ years’ experience in all aspects of management at a Senior HSE level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Infrastructure and Energy construction projects is essential
  • Excellent written and communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with fellow team members, management, stakeholders and industry experts and write high quality reports.
  • Experience in conducting incident investigations using ICAM or similar methodologies.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others including legislators, external auditors, accreditation bodies, industry experts.
  • Competent computing skills, advanced Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Flexibility for local and regional travel at times.
  • The ability to identify major trends, their level of influence and the resulting business impact
  • Internal auditor skills and the Knowledge of applicable legislation
  • Ability to interact with people at all levels of the organisation
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures
  • Ability to plan strategically and set realistic targets and priorities
  • Superior communication capabilities with the ability to inform, negotiate and influence at all levels
  • Understanding and adherence to the requirements of laws, industry and organisational standards, principles of good governance and accepted community and ethical practice
  • Strong leadership skills to manage and deliver key requirements in a geographically dispersed business
