A global private equity firm specializing in distressed investing currently seeks an Associate to join their Distressed Debt/NPL team in Shanghai. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing NPL platform and support the firm’s distressed investment activity in Greater China.

Applicants MUST have experience in real estate, credit, or NPL/distressed/special situations investing.

  • Support the development and implementation of investment strategies with a focus on NPL platform/portfolio acquisition, acquisition or restructuring of distressed real estate projects
  • Contribute to the analysis, portfolio construction, and management of distressed opportunities  
  • Assist with deal execution from origination to structuring and negotiation
  • Source and evaluate NPL servicers, potential borrowers and developer partners across the region
  • Conduct analysis and valuation of investments; monitor and analyze the investment portfolio
  • Contribute to restructuring and workout strategies
  • Oversee other special situation and distressed investments as necessary
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of client portfolio
  • Provide support in the creation and distribution of investment reports
  • Ad-hoc market research including macroeconomic events, valuation analysis, market efficiency 


  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA or CFA a plus (strong academic pedigree)
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in an investment banking, distressed, special situations, credit, or private equity platform, ideally in a modeling heavy group (lev fin, M&A). Lower level candidates will be considered for an Analyst position.
  • Ability to perform sophisticated financial analysis, cash flow modeling, and relevant industry research
  • Creative individual with knowledge of sourcing and structuring unique investment opportunities
  • Confident in establishing and growing stakeholder relationships
  • Strong collaborator, especially across teams on due diligence, structuring and negotiations (legal, financial, accounting, third party vendors)
  • Exceptional attention to detail with ability to manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects with diversified work streams while adhering to high quality work
  • Excel in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent business communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate advanced concepts.
  • Fluency in both Mandarin and English required
  • Analytical thinker with drive to learn about various diversified investment strategies
  • Enthusiasm for investments and finding compelling opportunities
