Aurex Group Overview:

Aurex Group is a boutique recruitment firm focusing on the Energy & Infrastructure sectors. Our Renewable Energy team works with companies across the full spectrum of the project lifecycle to recruit candidates in all functions from investment and origination to market development to project development to engineering and construction to operations and maintenance to divestiture.

As a recruitment agent, we assist companies to source talent in hard to fill positions or in new markets where our clients may not have a strong network or brand presence yet.

Client Overview:

Our client is a renowned, global renewable energy developer with expertise in large scale solar development, boasting a global portfolio of over 2GW of projects in operations.  As one of the world’s Top 10 solar developers, you will be joining a well-known brand and one of the best capitalized and most aggressive companies in the sector.  You will have the opportunity to work within a global business consisting of over 500 employees spread across 20+ countries who are specialists and experts in their job functions and who are passionate about the renewable energy transition.

You will be joining a company with deep roots in South Korea and a track record dating back to 2001 in the conventional power generation sector.  Thus, you will be joining a business that already has a good understanding of the power generation market, that has built relationships with MOTIE, KEPCO, and other relevant agencies, and that is committed to operating in the Korean market for the long term.

However, the solar team is small.  You must be comfortable working in a start-up environment in Korea and with reaching out to global team members for collaboration and their expert support.

Position Overview:

As the Commercial-Technical Engineer you will be a member of the global Commercial Engineering team.  You will join a team of experts who have been building utility-scale solar farms globally for 10+ years (not many companies can say that!) and thus will have access to lessons learned, best-practices, and some of the most brilliant minds in the solar development industry.  You will also join a company that is innovative and is constantly seeking to improve practices across engineering, procurement, and construction.  With an annual project construction volume in the gigawatt range, your future employer is one of the “market makers” who is shaping the future of the renewable energy industry.

Position is based in Seoul, South Korea full-time.  Applicants must be currently located in South Korea with work authorization for South Korea.  Travel of up to 50% will be required to visit project sites, meet with contractors, and coordinate approvals with government agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As the business will largely grow its portfolio in Korea through acquisitions and partnerships with other developers, EPCs, governments, or corporates, the Commercial-Technical Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Project Development team with technical opinions of project viability as well as commercial opinion regarding technical aspects of the projects
  • Lead Technical Due Diligence including managing third-party consultancies and service providers
  • Determine the expected annual energy yield of solar farms
  • Analyze LCOE for prospective projects
  • Provide input to the development and procurement teams regarding new releases of common equipment such as PV modules, inverters, and racking systems; also provide input on performance of any new equipment employed
  • Develop single line diagrams
  • Provide input to EPC contract technical appendices and review contractor bids
  • During project construction and commissioning, support the project management team and grid connection team, conducting site visits as needed

Requirements:

  • Must have worked on at least 1 solar plant due diligence project in South Korea
  • Understanding of commercial-technical inputs to financial models such as power purchase agreements and grid connection agreements
  • Driving license in order to visit project sites
  • Fluent in spoken and written Korean in order to review and negotiate vendor proposals in Korean
  • Fluent in spoken and written English in order to collaborate with global team members across Australia, Europe, North Africa, and North America.

Nice to have:

  • Experience using solar simulation software such as PVsyst, PVcase, ArcGIS, or AutoCAD
  • Degree in engineering
