The company we are recruiting for is a European renewable energy developer whose renewable energy mix includes onshore wind, ground mounted solar, floating solar, and C&I rooftop solar energy in South Korea.  It’s history of power generation goes back over 40 years and is one of the most stable and consistent power generation companies globally.  It has operations spanning over 20 countries on 5 continents, over 10GW of Renewable Energy assets and over 20GW of total installed capacity including conventional power generation.
 
This is a company that makes very deliberate decisions about which markets to enter and is fully committed once the decision is made.   It’s home country and South Korea have signed a partnership agreement for developing renewable energy.
 
Position Overview:
 
With the recent launch of DPPAs and the RE100 system in South Korea, our client is expanding the team and seeking a C&I Solar Developer to join the team based in Seoul.  The company has already built an impressive list of MNC partners abroad and has a solid track record of providing solar directly to corporate offtakers.  This person will focus on onboarding existing MNC customers who have operations in Korea as well as sourcing new corporate offtakers.  You will develop and build MW-scale solar on rooftops.

Key Responsibilities:
 
The C&I Solar Developer is responsible for:
 

  • Originate and execute commercial and industrial solar power projects on the rooftops of commercial buildings, industrial complexes, shopping malls, universities, and other MW-scale energy users  in South Korea
  • Identify, prioritize, and engage with target customers
  • Market the business and brand
  • Organize customer outreach and education activities such as seminars with trade groups, town halls, or participation in industry events with a goal to generate leads on new potential customers
  • Generate screening criteria and engage with new potential customers
  • Respond to tenders and RFPs from local companies and MNCs with operations in South Korea
  • Work with the engineering team for feasibility studies
  • Submit and iterate on project proposals with potential customers
  • Negotiate the PPA and project pricing
  • Liaise with government authorities regarding permitting and licenses; secure grid connection
  • Follow through with the project execution team to project completion, and where necessary, liaise with local EPC contractors
  • Collaborate with global colleagues to ensure engineering support for feasibility studies, finance team support for project finance, commercial team for risk management, O&M team to get accurate costs for your proposal, and other team members as needed

 
Requirements:
 

  • 3+ years of renewable energy project development experience in South Korea
  • Can have more experience from other sectors (ex: 5 years experience in oil and 3 years in renewables for 8 years total work experience; 2 years in telecoms, 6 in real estate, and 3 in renewables for 11 years total work experience)
  • Must have completed at least 1 rooftop solar project for a commercial or industrial customer from start-to-finish in South Korea
  • Because RE100 and Direct/Corporate PPAs (DPPA/CPPA) is new to South Korea, this person must be willing to work in uncertainty, be driven to find answers, and resilient
  • Business proficiency in spoken and written Korean in order to speak with potential customers in Korean, liaise with government agencies, complete paperwork for permits and licenses in Korean, and give presentations in Korean
